DEICIDE Guitarist Sets Record Straight Regarding Chilean Concert Cancellation
February 19, 2006DEICIDE guitarist Ralph Santolla has refuted reports that the cancellation of the group's opening show of their South American tour (February 21 show in Valparaiso, Chile) had anything to do with any failure on the concert organizers' part to secure proper permits or pressure from authorities to call off the gig (the show has since been moved to nearby Quilpue).
In an e-mail to BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Santolla wrote, "Here's the deal: To get into Brazil, we need visas that take a whole page of our passports. So our passports have to go to Miami for the visas. Glen [Benton, bass/vocals] and Jack [Owen, guitar] needed more pages because theirs were full. Steve's [Asheim, drums] was fine, and I just had to get a new one to go see my girlfriend in Spain after washing my old one. So we sent the two passports in to get pages added. That was supposed to take about three days; it took around 11. So we couldn't get on a plane because the passport agency had two of our passports. Period. That's it, nothing else."
DEICIDE will begin recording new album, "The Stench of Redemption", in March at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida with producer Jim Morris. The record will be the first DEICIDE album to feature new guitarists Owen (ex-CANNIBAL CORPSE) and Santolla (ex-DEATH, ICED EARTH) who have been part of the group's touring lineup since the departure of the Hoffman brothers in 2005. A June 6, 2006 release via Earache Records is expected.
